I contacted Brenda as a healthy sceptic in relation to Hypnobirthing and it was the best phonecall I ever made.
Hypnobirthing with Mindfulness
Hypnobirthing® is taught worldwide and has been in existence for over 18 years. This is a complete holistic birth education programme facilitated in small interactive classes and now online on zoom, with no more than 4 couples. It teaches the basics of how natural birthing unfolds. At the heart of the teaching is the principle that a relaxed birth is a satisfying empowering birth for Mother. Simple but specific self hypnosis, deepeners, relaxation and effective breathing exercises are taught.
Hypnobirthing® does not mean that you will be in a trance or asleep. Rather you will be able to chat and be in good spirits-totally relaxed but fully in control. You will always be aware of what is happening during your birthing. You will have conditioned your mind to relax seeing birth as a very normal physiological transformative event of the body.
Through a programme of deep relaxation, self-hypnosis, hypnotherapy, visualisations, mindfulness, and education, women learn to release emotions tied to fear-based stories and misinformation, and they are supported to see birth as normal. They learn to trust that their bodies know how to bring their babies into the world in the calm and gentle way that nature intended.
As you embark on this journey of pregnancy ( whether 1st or 5th!) you will start to realise that positive birthing is less about luck or genetics and more about education, effective preparation and planning, confidence, intuition and what we… women are born to do. With this programme you will have the tools and techniques to get the birth you want and deserve.
Mindfulness training is a core component of the classes which science has proven to help reduce stress and anxiety, especially in preparation for the early days of Motherhood and beyond.
What are the benefits?
Research has shown that Hypnobirthing® can help to:
Create a calm easier, peaceful birth experience by teaching deep levels of relaxation to eliminate the fear that causes tension and thus, pain. It can empower you to manage the hormones that increase or decrease pain.
- Reduces the need for an episiotomy and reduces the likelihood of surgical birth. Why you don’t have to push and the research evidence behind it.
- Understanding of the labour process, the physiology of labour and how our hormones work!
- Understanding comfort measures and what we need to support ourselves during this important rite of passage to Motherhood. What our birthing companions can do to support us
- Alleviates fatigue during labour, leaving you with more energy for the actual birth and the energy afterwards to enjoy baby during those early precious bonding days
- Provide a supportive integral role for your birthing companion
- Promotes deeper bonding of mother, baby, and birthing companion
- Encourage more rapid postnatal recovery
- How to work with our hospital providers
The patience, the encouragement and skill that Brenda showered me with in the first few days was pivotal in my success with breastfeeding. That was what helped me.
Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
I am a registered Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I have always been passionate in supporting a woman’s choice to breastfeed. I include a complementary breastfeeding class in my classes to support you in your wish to breastfeed. This helps to avoid common barriers to breastfeeding that you may encounter. Preparation is key! Postnatally I also offer a breastfeeding support for Mothers who require extra support on their breastfeeding journey. An individualised consultation postnatally usually lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours and costs 80 euro. I am a member of ALCI, The Assoc for Lactation Consultants in Ireland.
The classes were fantastic, allowing me to take time out from the hectic business of life and concentrate on my unborn baby for a few hours each week.
Ante-natal programmes/VBAC Workshops
This ‘active birth’ programme allows you to be very informed about your pregnancy, focusing on what you want and need, giving you choices on your pregnancy, your birth and in the early days after your baby is born. This is based on up-to-date evidence based research and hospital guidelines re pregnancy and birth. A very important aspect of the programme is how to work/ negociate with your hospital midwife or Consultant or chosen model of care. The class can also explore use of complementary therapies as a safe means of support, Homeopathy, reflexology and massage.
VBAC classes (vaginal birth after CS) are available to motivate you to achieve your aim to have a physiological birth through Hypnobirthing, Hypnotherapy and evidenced based care.
Individual one to one private regular classes/refresher courses tailor made to your specific needs in the comfort and privacy of your home. All participants on the one day workshops/ private consultations are followed up with ongoing telephone or e-mail support to discuss the day and follow up on any concerns for example should a birth plan need to be discussed later on. This class can be claimed back through your insurance provider.
Brenda is brilliant.. Calming.. reassuring.. an excellent teacher.. and full of knowledge….yet always aware that everyone is an individual and needs to be me as such.
Optimum Fetal Positioning and Maternal positioning Parent Class
This is an important class to understand how to create space in your pelvis for baby to rotate through. This class teaches you daily specific exercises to relax and prepare the muscles in your pelvis for birth. It will make you aware of what position your baby is in or should be in prior to birth. Exercises and positioning are known to support comfortable easier birth. In my classes I discuss different scenarios during the labour process to understand for example a back labour or if labour stalls, with invalauable solutions and remedies.
